Besatón – Chilean Students Protest With a Kiss – Passion For Education

Kissing, as the world has seen, is a peaceful form of expression of civil participation in a protest…

Once again a new, creative and innovative way of manifesting discontent with the status quo is employed by Chilean protesters.

A positive aspect is its ability to reduce the destructive potential for people who may not wish to protest peacefully.

When you have a mass dance, like the “Thriller”, or a mass kiss-a-thon (besatón), few opportunities are available for destruction of public property. Further, an activity like running around La Moneda 1800 times is also a protest activity that reduces the temptation for destruction of public property.

From all over the world, people are looking at the peaceful demonstration activities in Chile with genuine respect and admiration…

Now, with the government offering substantial sums of money to address the protest demands, people are beginning to ask: What do the protesters want?

The government has given clear signals it is ready to seriously negotiate a solution. So, the next step may be the hardest of all, namely, sitting down at the negotiating table to reach an acceptable agreement about how to go forward into the future…

The videos are joyful to behold, such creativity has been a long time coming. For this reason, all the videos are a delightful sight. Put another way, the entire world admires the genius and intellect put on display by the protest organisers…
