Unconference: What #EdcampSantiago Is

What’s Edcamp Santiago?

Edcamp Santiago is about learning, sharing ideas, developing networks and engaging with the teachers and future teachers of the Chilean education community.

Community. That’s a group of people who share a common goal, a common purpose, a common destiny.

Community. That’s a group of people who collaborate, cooperate, create and innovate – together.

Together. Together we are better.

At Edcamp Santiago we create something new, we replicate something old – the “unconference” an anti-conference.

We are “anti”, against the notion that a conference has to be a passive learning experience.

We learn together actively, we share together, we become better educators, better professionals – actively – at Edcamp Santiago 2012 – the unconference.

It’s the “unconference” because there are no fees. Edcamp Santiago is totally FREE.

It’s the “unconference” because there is no pre-planned agenda. We make the agenda together – first thing we do – make the agenda – we do together.

It’s the “unconference” because there is absolutely no selling. No one sells you a book or sells you any other product.

Edcamp Santiago is basically a group of teachers sharing knowledge, learning from one another at round table discussions, panel discussions, poster presentations, talks, and presentations. Everyone can be a presenter, a learner, a colleague, a friend – we’re not waiting on a guru to tell us what to do.

It’s informal learning and it’s formal learning, it’s an informal discussion and it’s a formal discussion – complete with Power Point – you decide how you want to share, how you want to learn. Learning, in all its forms – that’s what interests us teachers most at Edcamp Santiago. It really is all good, inclusive – not exclusive.

Edcamp Santiago is about learning and sharing with whoever else is interested in what you are interested in – all disciplines are invited.

It’s all about learning and expanding your horizons no matter where you are in your career.

Why Edcamp Santiago is Different

When you go to Edcamp Santiago 2012, you’ll see that it’s user-sponsored in that the attendees get to choose the topics.
