Language. It’s what we do and who we are that gives meaning to our words. The limits of my language are the limits of my world.
Wittgenstein: Like him or love him, leave him at some point, but what you can not do is ignore him. Not if words are a part of what you do, if words are your tools of work.
Say Wittgenstein, and a Teacher of English will say something provocative, something profound, something worth reflection.
How about this sentence: “This is a very pleasant pineapple”. What does that mean? To me, it means the pineapple is juicy and sweet. So, what does it mean to you?
According to Wittgenstein, in the filmed version below: “When you want to know the meaning of a word, don’t look inside yourself, look at the uses of the word in our way of life.”
